Rockchip just showcased their next big thing, aka the RK3288 SoC, at the ongoing Hong Kong Electronics Fair. What caught our eye was a super-fast booting tablet; a handful seconds is all it took for the tablet to wake up to life!
Running Google Chrome OS's open source variant, i.e., Chromium OS, the RK3288 powered device took virtually no time -- 8 seconds -- to boot up to usability. Although the device was only a demo unit (and not too good to look at as well) and ran the aforementioned Chromium OS, we believe it won't take Chinese manufacturers too long to start minting Android powered ones with similar functionality.

In the video above, you can watch Charbax of ARMdevices.net getting up, close and personal with the semi-functional prototype at the major electronics fair.
A flurry of RK3288 powered devices -- including tablets, and set-top boxes (STBs) -- are expected to go on sale starting next month. We, however, recently reported about two such devices that are already purchasable, among others which are expected to ship soon.
