Incoming: 64-bit, 8 core HTC phone!

MediaTek might have been the first to churn out a 'true' octa-core CPU, but there's still a lot of ground to be covered on the 8 core arena and fabricators seem keen to do so, soon.

According to reports, MediaTek's Taiwan compatriot HTC might be up to something on that front. It's being said that HTC is working on an octa-core smartphone, but one with a 64-bit architecture. MediaTek's MT6592 works on the 32-bit architecture, so it's safe to assume that HTC is up to something newer than that.

With 8-core Snapdragon SoCs in tow, we could be in for a Qualcomm powered octa-core phone later this year. However, again unlike the 'true' nature of the MediaTek octa-core CPUs, these Snapdragon chips will work on the big.LITTLE scheme.

With MediaTek's octa-core having failed to make it big on the high-end segment, do you think HTC will aim the mid-range market with this upcoming phone? Mid-range really makes sense for HTC right now, with the M8 still quite fresh in the market.
