First 8-core Mediatek MT6592 chipset spotted at Mlais

Taiwanese chip maker Mediatek have already announced that they plan to launch the 8-core MT6592 processor this year, and it looks like phone makers will launch 8-core phones earlier than expected.

Mlais, who are most famous for their Samsung Galaxy style phablets have posted this photo of a development PCB with 8-core MT6592. The ‘V’ on the chipset also identifies it as a development unit.

Mediatek’s 8-core processor is different to Samsungs Exynos chip as it can run all 8-core cores simultaneously (Samsung plan to add this feature to current chips). Not everyone agrees that phones currently need 8-cores running at the same time, and Qualcomm famously made fun of the idea in this video.

In addition to Mlais launching affordable 8-core phones before the end of the year we have also heard that Zopo, THL and even JiaYu will have 8-core models and updates ready for shipment soon too.
